About
My approach to photography is both artistic and journalistic, finding the composition and light that best tells the unfolding story. My favorite images are people I’ve caught in the moment. Capturing that true vibrance of life and emotion fuels my passion for photography. My dad was a photo enthusiast and his interest had an early impact on me. As a Navy family we traveled constantly. I remembered the places and people we’d known in our travels through my camera lens. I took pictures of my family and friends and discovered something I was compelled to do for my whole life.
It was an easy decision to pursue photography as a career and I attended the Atlanta College of Art to study technique and art. In 1996 I graduated, earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
When I started to work, my art was focused on commercial photography – fashion, music and editorial shoots. Children came into my life and surprised me in so many wonderful ways. Photographing my kids and their playmates created images that communicated the love I feel for my subjects, lifting my art to a much more gratifying level.
When I take a picture that captures something unique about a person or scene I still feel a thrill handling those first prints of that image. For me, sharing this experience with other people is both fun and fulfilling.
